Infrared Material

The main difference between infrared optical system and visible optical system is that only a limited number of materials can be effectively applied to the medium-wave infrared and long-wave infrared bands, and fewer materials can be applied to both bands at the same time. Therefore, infrared materials are not only limited in variety, but also expensive. Such optical materials are fragile and have poor chemical stability. Commonly used infrared optical materials: germanium, silicon, zinc selenide and zinc sulfide, calcium fluoride, magnesium fluoride and sapphire.

Our lapping and polishing machine has processed magnesium fluoride, zinc sulfide and other infrared materials with good results.
